Marty Essentials

I do not know what most Down Syndrome kids are like or if they have similar interests  or capabailites.

I do know Marty’s capabilities and interests as a 2 1/2 year old.  Marty loves to figure out the mechanics of a toy or the DVD player.  He knows what a remote is used for.  He is great at Melissa and Doug puzzles.  He loves to put things in a container and take them out again.  He has a perfected pitch whether it is a ball or something he is done with.

He loves a challenge and will stick to learning something until he has mastered it.  The very first puzzle piece he mastered he carried with him as he played which  I felt was a reminder to him that he was capable and could master a task.

He loves Elmo and music;  he laughs at the Sesame Street characters especially Grover.  He loves Sandra Boyton books (sandraboynton.com ).

He loves his room and loves to climb.

Marty is not very verbal yet but he has mastered a great sign language library.  He uses “more”, “mother”, “please”, “all done”,  and “Elmo” the most.

He is a typical two year old in many, many ways.
